When I first started karate at the age of 52, I thought it was all about kicks, throwing punches and blocking. I soon learned that karate not only helped to develop my self defense skills, but it also has improved many other aspects of my life. From a physical aspect it has helped me to lose over 20 pounds and regain the flexibility I once had as a teenager. My mental focus and overall mental health have improved as well. I have also learned other interesting things such as Japanese terms, culture and philosophies. Martial Arts can improve your self defense skills, but its' true benefit is the positive impact it has on your everyday life.

When joining Karate 2 ½ yrs ago, I’ve meet different types of people who have the same interest of truly enjoying it.  Being part of a group is very important, and it makes a positive difference in people lives.  Teenagers gripe about nothing for them to do, Karate is not seasonal, and it keeps you busy in a positive way.  I watched the Demo Team perform at the River & Spires and said to myself “I want to do that!!!”  Be something positive to myself and others.  So, it motivates me to train hard and appreciate the tradition of martial arts.

It teaches self confidence, develops social skills, how to respect others, and how to manage success and disappointment.

The Demo Team represents the Baize Martial Arts and what we stand for; our values, talent, skill, work ethics, team work and our heart for excellence.

Who wouldn’t want to be part of that?  Being young and growing up in a positive environment does not guarantee anything but gives me a better chance of making better decisions.  We become the people around us and I can only hope, one day be a positive role model like the ones I have been around.  Thank you so much for the opportunity you have given me to continue the same path of making a better world.  I look up to the men and women that sacrifice so much for others, and ask very little in return, if asking at all.  Again thank you!!!
